Coming Soon: Understanding Fugue - An Online Interactive Clinic with pianist Lura Johnson

UNDERSTANDING FUGUE

A 2 hour online workshop

TBA, Fall 2020

Understanding Fugue is an interactive clinic taking you deep into the intricacies of Baroque Fugue. Listen, discuss, analyze, sing, play, and learn!

Learn about the historical context of counterpoint, the complicated “rules” of fugue, and learn practical techniques that will help you hear the multiple voices much more clearly. Class will begin with my performance of one of J.S. Bach’s masterpiece fugues. Then we’ll discuss, analyze, color the various voices with our colored pencils, sing, and play.

Discover how much there is to hear, and how much it enhances your listening experience!

Supplies needed:

Ability to access to a Zoom Meeting

Colored Pencils, at least 4 different colors

Ability to print out 4-6 pages of music

Prerequisites:

Ability to read music will enhance your learning experience but isn’t required.

Testamonials:

“It was an intense, beautifully guided class on all aspects of the music - background, polyphony construction, performance, listening and more... absolutely one of the most satisfying training events I have ever attended.” - John K.

“interactive and engaging... The fugue clinic helped me perceive each voice separately and also gave me much greater understanding about fugue structure. Now I can listen to a fugue and enjoy the interwoven melodies on a much deeper level.” - Lili B.
