program:VIVALDIThe Four SeasonsSCHOENBERGTransfigured Night
Think Schoenberg’s music is inaccessible? Think again! This early work for strings is the height of lush romanticism. It describes a woman confessing to her lover that she is pregnant by another man; he forgives her, and the evening is transfigured. An absolutely beautiful work. The concert begins with a solo appearance by our new concertmaster, Audrey Wright, who wowed us all with her brilliant performance of Mozart last season. In Vivaldi’s much beloved set of four concertos we hear the birds of Spring, the storms of Summer, the drunk peasants of Autumn, and the icicles of Winter.
