BSO: Ax plays Brahms

The eminent pianist Emanuel Ax—performs Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 1 which remains the standard-bearer of Brahms for our times, consistently exhibiting his “big and pliant sonority, stamina, intelligence, poetic feeling and deep musicality.” (Chicago Tribune) Beethoven’s Fourth Symphony channels the impish wit of his onetime teacher Haydn, while Unsuk Chin’s subito con forza riffs on a phrase from Beethoven over the course of five frenetic minutes.
